These images show one potential style of streetcar – hundreds of different designs have been manufactured since the late 19th century.
The point of this exercise is to show that there are alternatives besides modern European models. At one time, many cities had streetcars custom designed for them – styles ranged from ornate to sleek and aerodynamic – but they were always unique.
